Speak the language like you’ve always wanted to. You don’t sound like a robot when you speak in your mother tongue (no offence to real robots reading this), so why learn a new language only to talk like one? We want to get you confidently speaking a language like you’ve always wanted, not just memorising a list of vocabulary words or learning sentences you’ll never use. Give us a go – your first lesson is free! LEARNING WITH BABBEL : • 14 languages available: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Polish, English, Indonesian, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian. Probably best you don’t try them all at once. • Made by humans – expert linguists are behind all of our courses. We keep them warm and well-fed. • Choose courses on topics you care about, and learn what matters to you. • 15 minute lessons (on average) – learn without upsetting your calendar (we know how sensitive it can be). • Progress is synced across all devices, and all content can be downloaded for offline use. So you can learn anytime and anywhere, except in your sleep (we’re still working on that technology). • Review Manager – helps you keep new vocabulary up there once you’ve learnt it. • Easy to use – simple and clear interface. • We’re also available on Apple Watch – another easy way to practice on the go. This app is fantastic, I haven't yet found anything else that is as cheap and useful for learning the languages. And if you are comparing to duolingo use them BOTH! Duolingo is good for expanding your vocabulary but this is better for understanding conjugation, tenses and grammar so that you can have real conversations one day.
  • Molto bene!

I recently downloaded the free version of Babble and had a little play around with it. I created an account using Google + and logged through pretty quickly. I then went to select German out of the wide range of languages that there was. I completed the first lesson until it told me that I would have to pay a small fortune on a subscription per month on either 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or 1 year. If they can't afford to keep their app running is probably because no-one wants to pay that price. I would suggest that they stop advertising as much and try and leap their customers. MAKE IT FREE!

The Babbel app is doing wonders for my learning of Spanish. I love how it can take you right from scratch to advance/practically fluent in your chosen language(s). Very nice structure and deliverance of lessons, course material and topics, helpful and informative hints and very addictive, and with cheap options for subscription... Now I can learn languages to a fluent level by myself thanks to this amazing and innovative service. Love it! However, if I had one suggestion, it would be this: while progressing through lessons, there seems to be only two options, you get the answer right, or you get the answer wrong, with no time to learn the correct way or no chance to amend your answer. How can you truly learn a language if your expected to simply memorise a fact of spelling, grammar or a word or phrase itself without being given the opportunity to revise it as you learn. These are language LESSONS, not a quiz, and of course if you get an answer wrong, you lose credit on that particular lesson, which would make one feel dejected. If I were to improve this small, albeit significant flaw in Babbel's deliverance of learning material, I'd offer the chance to resubmit an answer giving the reason why one went wrong. I speak of course of the writing exercises as I do realise the speaking exercises do offer multiple chances to get it right. I'm quite serious about languages and I need to ensure that a skill is learned. I'm still only a beginner at Spanish and this flaw makes me feel like I'm not learning anything properly. Were I still at school, the teacher would tell you where you go wrong, and tell you how to fix it there and then. Like I stated above, these are meant to be lessons, not a test.
  • No joy with the app

I have paid for six months membership and cannot use the app. It says that I need to purchase it when I have already. I could only access lesson 1 and cannot move forward. No reply from babbel to my issue !
  • Voice recognition not good

Repeated the same phrase over a 100 times and it still says it's wrong. I am understood by natives but not the app. Rubbish. Definitely wouldn't pay for this.
  • Waste of time

After having issues with the subscription I had to phone customer service for them to let me access the account which isn't great and should be looked int, but now that I'm in I'm very satisfied with the app and would highly recommend!

It was amazing until i realised you have to pay an obscene amount, I'm a young girl trying to learn something new to get me through life and open up doors for me.
  • Does not work with my iPhone 7!

Paid subscription. Does not work. Says need to unlock and then just freezes. Waste of money as thing stand.
  • Missing Courses

Do I paid for the courses but I don't have them accessed for some reason. I really found the first free lesson to be good and so paid for a subscription to all of the courses. Now I'm just money out of hand and no better off for it. This is really disappointing because I had high hopes for Babbel and it looks like they just robbed me, of all the things they could do.
  • Very good but......

Babbel is a very good language app. which I would have given 5 Stars, if it wasn't for one minor but in my opinion very significant issue in the learning French version anyway. The French speakers in the app., especially the male voice speak far too quickly considering one is trying to learn the language! It is most apparent during the conversation section of the lessons, I'm finding trying to pick out quite a number of words very difficult. Perhaps it's my age or just me but it really is detracting from my enjoyment of completing the lessons. Duolingo, (which is also free) and Mondly, (which l'm just using the free version for short daily lessons), do not have this issue and has I've paid for a full 12 months subscription for Babbel, I'm starting to wish I hadn't. Can the developers have a speed control option, (as there is for YouTube playback for instance), for the French voices, (Duolingo has a normal or slow button and it's a fantastic option but as the normal option is generally at a slower speed than Babbel it's not required too often). If this can be done, or just slow down the speech in general, I think it will be of great benefit during the learning process.
  • Danish.

The app works well on the whole but some of the synchronisation between pronunciation and presentation of answers is poor i.e. The wrong word is audible. However, the method reinforces learning effectively.

So far so good, like the set up, the lessons. Not doing so good in the tests yet, but early days. I also have a book and a dictionary and am using my little pad to write the genders and the tenses. I also have google translate which helps with the tenses. I have now joined a speaking group. First class next Thursday, my day off. Hope to be able to have basic by Xmas. I am going to Barcelona then.
  • Great fun and lots of variety

I've not gone all the lessons yet but I've started to find Babbel lessons very useful considering my age and state of mind. Thank you.
