Speak the language like you’ve always wanted to. You don’t sound like a robot when you speak in your mother tongue (no offence to real robots reading this), so why learn a new language only to talk like one? We want to get you confidently speaking a language like you’ve always wanted, not just memorising a list of vocabulary words or learning sentences you’ll never use. Give us a go – your first lesson is free! LEARNING WITH BABBEL : • 14 languages available: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Polish, English, Indonesian, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian. Probably best you don’t try them all at once. • Made by humans – expert linguists are behind all of our courses. We keep them warm and well-fed. • Choose courses on topics you care about, and learn what matters to you. • 15 minute lessons (on average) – learn without upsetting your calendar (we know how sensitive it can be). • Progress is synced across all devices, and all content can be downloaded for offline use. So you can learn anytime and anywhere, except in your sleep (we’re still working on that technology). • Review Manager – helps you keep new vocabulary up there once you’ve learnt it. • Easy to use – simple and clear interface. • We’re also available on Apple Watch – another easy way to practice on the go. Used babbel for a year and cancelled my subscription via iTunes but wasn't aware the pre-approved payment was still active on PayPal. No email notifications before the renewal or anything

Useful phrases and good grammar breakdown. All of what you learn can be used in everyday conversation and is a great foundation to build the language from

This app is annoying because on certain courses you can't repeat the word to learn how to pronounce it. You should move to the next lesson on the course yourself not automatically
  • Good teaching

Yes the teaching of French which I'm learning on Babbel is very easy to remember and I enjoy it more than any other language course I have done and would recommend it to others.
  • Great app

The Babble methodology for language is effective and encourages you to continue learning your chosen language. I would encourage Babble to extend their language base to include Arabic, Mandarin and other important World languages. I'd highly recommend the app.
  • Almost perfect.

My French teacher says that the English translations are not always correct. She is French and lived in England for 12 years, she retires from teaching next year. For me I am finally learning French, cannot recommend it highly enough. GarryR.

I am unable to get my 'normal' voice recognized on this app while using my iPad. Very frustrating as the app appears well thought out.

After the first lesson on the app I was asked to sign up to rather an expensive subscription or I couldn't go on so I decided not to subscribe but then I received an email offering me half price so I signed up but only then I realised I couldn't use the app for lessons unless I subscribed again the email offer is for desktop use only but the only account I have with them is the app and that's why they had my email is totally pointless to me if I can only access the course trough desktop as it would've be total inconvenience.
  • Good at first but then you have to pay

Have just been billed further subscription, (it does say that it will be automatically renewed at end of subscription). I have tried and tried to cancel but to no avail. Probably just me being technologically dim, but I'm generally quite savvy.

Well, we have actually moved to Spain from U.K. and my Spanish is very basic (or worse). So, I need to learn some basic Spanish at my own pace and when I have a slack 15 minutes. This is what Babbel gives me. The 15 minute lesson is just the right length. I like the way Babbel repeats the lesson in a different format (e.g. tap the pairs) and then reviews the same things again. This is my only hope to remember what I have just 'learned'. The big plus over Duolingo Spanish is that there are formal grammar reviews (e.g. Tenses of the verb 'Ser') as well as the pictorial lessons. I can't learn any other way. Another plus over Duolingo which I have tried to like as it is free; there are no silly phrases or time wasting vocabulary; how useful is 'where is my elephant'! It's £20 for 3 months: I'm ok with that as it is well structured. However, one dislike; Apple Apps states it comes with family sharing. This is NOT true. (Apple problem I think!). BUT I would like to be offered a multiuser discount!
  • I don't do subscribed apps!

I rather like purchasing apps, no adds and maintenance releases being two reasons. But there is no way on earth that I will periodically send money for the privilege of renting an app. There are far too many more reasonable competitors for that to happen.
