  • Amazing game

Our 4yo boy who just started school learnt so much through playing with the monster! He's not even aware he's learning! His older brother (7) created own monster and loves playing it too. Although he knows all the sounds, it's just fun for him. Brilliant app. Thanks!
  • Great app for a child learning to read.

Our child loves this app. Learning and fun!

Great potential but needs work! In the spaceship game, the blocks need the letter on them. Also the flower game is much too difficult for young kids. How about if the character stops automatically by every flower, and the player has to choose between two or three letters? So far, the only game that works for my kid is the duck game and she's getting tired of it. Please fix the other games. Thank you!
  • Really good app!

It’s a brilliant little app, my 4 year old is thrilled with it - however, we’ve noticed with the flower game, he’s been told to find the ‘g’ sounds, well every time he does go down the route of ‘g’ it tells him he’s wrong. I’ve tried it also on a new account, and I’m also wrong. 4/5 for that one minor problem, but it’s wonderful! He’s enjoying building his rocket for his monster!
  • Absolutely worth it!!!

I can't remember how I first heard of teach your monster to read but I've had it on desk top and was so happy when the app arrived because now I can take it everywhere. My 10 and 8 years old and my 4 years old have been using it and it has helped with their spelling and reading too. Honestly it's a brilliant investment.
  • Excellent reading system which really works

Thank you to usbourne who made our non reading boy into someone who was totally hooked on the games and then was able to read. It really built his confidence. My second son now six wanted to try so rather than use the computer I downloaded the app and have found the same success. Thank you Usbourne!

  • Great but needs refinement.

Some games are excellent. Others are really tricky. We are on the level 1 games for my toddler and the rocket game you have to stack blocks according to sound. Can you put the letters on the blocks so it's easier for the kids to recognise. Also, when you get one wrong, you have to start the whole thing over. Can you design it so that blocks stay in place? Just a suggestion.
  • Potentially good

This app could be good but it doesn't appear to be working properly. I'm guessing the rocket game should have letters on the blocks as it's impossible to play at the moment
  • Great free app

My severely dyslexic 6 year old has loved Teach Your Monster to Read. She didn't gel with other dyslexic specific apps. She has recently completed it, and it has helped her no end, although I think she will benefit from doing it again. My only criticism is that in areas she didn't fully grasp it didn't keep doing until she understood it, so she completed it but in some areas only got 60% or so.
  • Excellent resource

This app is so much fun my phonics adverse five year old didn't even realise he was learning. Definitely helped him progress with his reading and spellings.
  • This is the best early-reading app we have ever used!

The Teach Your Monster To Read app is far and away the best reading tool we have found for our kids. My youngest has basically learnt to read solely from using this app and is now top of her class with a genuine love of reading, her older sister (who is dyslexic) learnt her letters and phonemes (finally!) through playing this over again, never getting bored of the magical characters and brilliant interactions. As a parent, you can't ask for more! I would genuinely have paid at least 10x the cost of this, if not more, and cannot rate it highly enough and nor can my kids. A must-have for any family with emerging readers.
  • Can't praise this literacy game enough!

I'm not as well placed to comment on this game from an educational or technological perspective as others, but I wanted to add my comment as the parent of a child who has benefited so much from the game. I was at a loss as to how to help my daughter with her phonics, but was fortunate enough to discover this game. It is very well designed, giving enough practice of each sound / letter combination to make a difference, and making the practice enough fun that my daughter wants to do it. She is now obsessed with finding "trickies" (sight words), in the game and in real life. She played the second game in the series twice it was so much fun, and is now progressing through the third game very happily. In fact, a big problem is stopping my daughter from playing the game when her computer time is up! Her reading has come on in leaps and bounds since she started playing the game. Today she picked up one of her little sister's library books, read a page or two, and then told me proudly, "I can read this now because I have played the monster game so much." It really is a great game and it's wonderful to see my daughter's reading progress as she plays it.

The children in my class loved this app. Parents was happy with taking their child's own login home to enhance further reading skills. The children enjoy to play the games and can set themselves up independently.

I teach in an infant school and coordinate the ICT. What a find! This app is amazing and the children often choose this in their independent time as they are learning without even realising it! Great stats provided and lots of lovely resources for children who engage!
  • Best app for teaching your kids/monsters to read

I work in education and have tried dozens of literacy apps. This is right up there with the very best. Its phonics based approach is pedagogically sound and up to date with the latest thinking on the topic. Plus, it's also starts from the beginning of the literacy journey which is surprisingly rare. The games are fun with just the right level of repetition vs novelty and I've found many children coming back to it again and again, even when they've mastered the relevant bits. Huge congrats to the team that developed this. All education software should be this well thought through.
  • Letters missing so hard to complete...

This game doesn't always work. Letters are missing on some levels which makes it hard to actually do so confuses the child. Please fix as my daughter is enjoying trying to do this.
  • Games repetitive

School sent login details home but you have to pay to use on an iPad. The concept is great but the games haven't been improved for the touch interface on the iPad. The rocket game is awkward even when trying to help as an adult. My 4 year old completed the first island but was really disappointed to find the sheep and rocket games on the next island as well. Hopefully it will move onto words eventually as the letter games are quite tedious.

My 6 year old son has learning difficulties, attention problems and suffers from frustrations due to low self esteem. The entire programme has been absolutely fabulous for him. It is the only thing he will stick at for an extended period of time and I can slowly see progress being made. My other two children learnt to read effortlessly. It is not until you have a child that struggles that you learn the importance of the small building blocks to learning -something this programme does beautifully.
