Blinkist - Always Learning Reviews

  • Expensive

    By Charlietwice
On signing up I was given the option of paying monthly/yearly or receiving one book per day. I chose the latter as £60 per year was a bit much based on a 24 hour tryout. I did not get the one book a day that was promised so I deleted the app. The few books I did see were ok and if you have the money, probably worth it. The one book a day would have been fine but where did it go?
  • Great idea, bad system

    By wingled
Great potential, I really enjoyed what I got to see upon downloading it. However, ONE DAY is a ridiculous amount of time for a trial period. Second, I probably would subscribe, and I almost never pay for apps, but I think it’s pretty annoying that they insist on taking a year’s payment in one go. They should have more trust in their content and give the option to pay monthly, and to subscribe at any time, or at least a few months at a time. There’s no way I’m paying a whole year up front for an app I only get one day to actually look at. Nevertheless, it’s a cool concept and I commend the developers and wish them luck.
  • Great idea, pity about the bugs

    By danand725
I do like the idea. I’ve used the app quite a lot over the last few weeks, but I keep running into the same bugs, even after this update. On my iPad, on the search screen, there is no way of escaping back to any other part of the app. You’d think that would be something that would be discovered in testing. I have a recent iPad, but there’s no cancel button displayed. I have to quit the app to escape the search screen. The app also isn’t great offline. When traveling on the London Underground, the app won’t auto play downloaded audio, or store the playback position to upload later. Very frustrating. Other than that, the selection of books and quality of the text / audio is great.
  • Advertising

    By Simon147147
In your advert you make the claim: "the app all CEO's love". Clearly this is not true. You should also know that "nonfiction" is not a word. It should have a hyphen. You also make the highly unlikely claim that the average CEO reads 60 books per year. This is completely implausible. Please provide a reputable source for this claim. If you can address these issues in your response, I will change my rating. Otherwise I will report your advertisement to Facebook for making false representations.
  • Very limited without purchasing content

    By SPCarson
Most content needs unlocked with a membership, seems misleading
  • Limited number of boos

Selection of books could really be more diverse.
  • An essential app

    By Moireach
This has become one of a select few essential apps for me. I’m very busy young father of two. I loved watching documentaries as a teenager and student but I don’t have time anymore. Enter Blinkist. Blinkist gives me the chance to learn loads whilst being busy. I’ve listened to dozens and dozens of blinks over the past 4 months whilst cleaning, tidying, organising, shopping, mowing the lawn or doing whatever else around the house. We all have different tastes, but I find it very easy to find content that I find interesting and engaging. The highlighting is a fantastic feature. As I listen, if something really stands out I’ll open up my phone and highlight the sentence. This will then be easily accessible later on. There’s always room to grow and improve, but Blinkist have stared really well. Trying to think of any cons, the only thing that springs to mind is that I find the content pretty left wing. I could be wrong, but I think there is little to no representation from the right of centre. An app like this needs to be totally unbiased and give all of the mainstream a platform, not just the left of centre.
  • Amazing

  • Invaluable

By really annoying having to pick
I wish I had time to read all these books, but.........
  • Spamming service

    By purofu
I got a paid subscription really regretting it. Since I joined they spammed me with more than emails.
  • Just the ticket!

    By Rootie2
Easy to use and digest the summary text. Perfect way to get the gist of a book before buying it too. Enjoying it.
  • Great content, but could be easier to navigate.

    By Daniel12473
Content is really good. Once you get used to navigating it it's ok, but could be better.
  • Interesting App, Too Much Spam

    By sanvean_
App and concept is interesting but avoid giving them your email address unless you love spam. There’s two separate email lists which you’ll have to unsubscribe from confusingly and needlessly in two different places (app and website) to be fully free...
  • Great for filling once wasted time

    By self actualiser
This app has been brilliant for unhooking me from the addiction of scrolling through social media feeds Or should I say swapping an unhealthy addiction to a healthy one...
  • Love this!!

    By DJ Dubai
Amazing app love it exactly what an app should bring to your life, information of quality but in a succinct manner and easily accessible. Keep bringing more books guys!
  • Loving this!

    By WeeGill
Got the free app and I'm enjoying the daily free books. It's really encouraging me to try and read every single day.
  • Surprisingly good

    By Testingtesting one two three
I wasn't sure at first but actually it's really interesting bitesize information summarised from books. Useful for choosing books to read.
  • Problems with the app

    By Richard_h
Most of the audio content is duplicated which means you need to skip through "blinks". I reported the issue sometime ago but no one has fixed.
  • Pricing is way off but looks good.

    By KarateSuperstar
This appears to be a very useful and interesting app. However, £60 up front for a year or nearly £12 a month is ridiculously overpriced. If you had a £2-£3 monthly option, I'd pay it for a service such as this. I understand you need to make money but I don't see many people paying such a high price point. Best if luck to you, let me know if you lower the price and I'll be back.
  • Ok now
