  • Watch OS4 - can’t dismiss app

    By Mikeskinn
Fantastic app. OS maps is getting better & offers annual subscription to all maps, which is really useful, but still far clunkier and less reliable than ViewRanger (which You can use in other countries; I’ve used it in Germany & Canada). Recent problem with Watch OS4 though is that I can’t get rid of a map from the watch after opening it (I’ve closed iPhone/iPad apps and swiped the map off the watch but it returns. I have to restart watch.
  • Great App

Good to see improvements in usability!
  • Great app

Little bit fiddly to use at times but a great app nonetheless. It's also saved my friends and I getting lost on the North Yorkshire Moors in the dark (Lyke Wake Walk). We may still have been there now without it. Can prove invaluable under certain circumstances and it's definitely worth getting if you do lots of walking.
  • Lakes

Just completed 2 weeks walking in the Lakes, this app proved excellent support to track and check our progress - highly recommend
  • Fab map and walking app

    By Towsemouse
Amazing walking routes created by other users and professionals. Some you have to pay for but most are free which is great. I've created a route using both the tracker and the website, both were easy and very helpful. The only reason that I haven't given it 5 stars is because you can't just download one you're of created routes onto you're device, for the day therefore it takes up a lot of memory. And the terms tracks and routes are confusing.
  • Indispensable app for walkers

    By Marmul1
This is one of those rare apps that is so useful, I would struggle to be without it now. Downloaded the app to use with downloaded OS premium maps for walking in the UK. But have since found the free online OpenStreetMap has been excellent while holidaying abroad in Spain. Whereas Google Maps is great for navigating in a car, ViewRanger is greatly superior for finding footpaths and tracks rather than roads. Excellent and recommend to anyone who enjoys walking/hiking.

  • Mountain biking.

Use it for mountain biking in Souther Spain. Very helpful when trying to find and stay on a route.
  • Great App

Used it in Most of Europe. Works a treat. Highly recommended.
  • Brilliant aid for walkers

    By Gallivanting Guy
My wife and I are gradually walking the coast of the UK. Wherever we are this brilliant app shows our exact location and wether or not footpaths exist. It also records each walk we complete and gives us various statistics as well as a visual record of what we have achieved so far. Indispensable aid.
  • Last night my VR saved my life

    By HeWhoWalksOnBlackWater
OK, it wasn't last night, that was a bit of artistic licence. However, on a November night walk in the Cairngorms Mountains (Scottish Highlands) this app enabled us to quickly find the Hutchinson Memorial Hut in blizzard conditions at 2am. - Full offline mapping and GPS features. - Route planning which can be downloaded enabling you to do a full fly through on Google Maps/World. - Distance and height gain/drop on routes plotted - beacon buddy to locate the position of friends using the app - Skyline feature that shows the name of hills/town/points of interest you are pointing your device at - much much more This really is a potential life saver. We've all heard of idiots who use their mobile to navigate in the mountains. I now want to know if they had this app on their mobile. It's incredible. I've been using it for years now and, although I take a map and compass as well (they never run out of juice or could potentially go faulty - well, a compass could, depending of geology of the area you're in) this app is my primary and, even on multi-day mountain treks, go-to nav tool. Although the map is packed, it's generally never referenced on the hoof. Life saving kit: Your phone. A waterproof case. An external power source. Mandatory back up: Map. Compass. Be safe and enjoy your adventures. 👍👍👍
  • The standard.

You need to know where you're heading.
  • Essential

Used for search and rescue duties, eats phone batteries but it's a small price to pay. Also very good for walking holidays abroad.
  • Good

Shows foot paths for free Can pay for even better maps
  • Great, useful app

    By Pjbrent
I've tried lots of different mapping apps and ViewRanger is without doubt the best. The learning curve could be easier but overall it's the best, and for me, has been reliable. It uses a lot less battery than some of its rivals too! I quite often still have 70% left at the end of the day.
  • Looks good so far.

    By Brihoppy72
Have yet to use in anger but looks good so far. Would like to see GR displayed in larger digits though. Keep up the good work!!
  • Very accurate

    By Fussy old man
It amazes me the accuracy to which it records the track that I have been walking, displaying on the OS map.
  • Fantastic in every way

    By Mic2k
The best and most flexible mapping app for serious walkers and cyclists. The only reservation I have is that battery use seems a bit higher than similar apps.
  • Great to find a map app that works, superb

    By Topbase
Viewranger shows rival apps how to do it. It has many carefully crafted features which all work reliably. Although it takes more effort to learn how to get the best out of it you end up with a satisfying and reliable tool. After enduring dire frustrations with the subscription based app from OS I took care to experiment thoroughly with Viewranger before committing to a chunk of upfront map purchase costs with Viewranger which uses a straightforward purchase model for OS maps. I have now gone ahead by buying the full GB OS 50000 set, confident that I will actually be able to use them reliably and well into the future (I don't have the same faith in the app from OS). I plan to add the 25000 maps in smaller areas as I need them.
  • Fantastic

    By JamesHawks
This is an awesome app and I've only been using the free elements of it which are fantastic. I've used it to plan my walks with other people's routes and it's so easy and intuitive to use. The free ranger maps are good quality too with all the walking tracks on. I've also got OS maps and some of the tracks I've walked on ViewRanger don't appear on my paid for OS map! All in all I can't fault the app, so many features and I can see myself using the premium features too eventually. Definitely give this app a go especially if you're new to it all. Go for it!
