Join the thousands of people who use Universalis daily! You will get: • The Catholic liturgical calendar for every year (until the year 2300 and beyond!). You can choose from over 20 local calendars, for USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, India and Singapore, and most of the dioceses of the UK. • The About Today page: information and meditations on the saints and feasts of the day. • Readings at Mass: the readings, psalms, prayers and antiphons for the day’s Mass. The Jerusalem Bible readings with Grail psalms (USA and Philippines: New American Bible). • Mass Today: this unique page gives you the Order of Mass and the prayers, readings and so on, all merged into one single sequence, so that you can follow Mass; or even celebrate it if you can find a discreet place to put the iPad on your altar. • The Liturgy of the Hours: Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, Night Prayer, the three daytime Hours, and the Office of Readings. The scripture readings are from the Jerusalem Bible and the psalms are the Grail psalms. • You can search for words and phrases in the readings and psalms, see their context and go to the date when they are used. • You can set an alarm to remind you when it's time for each Hour. You can also set alarms for the Angelus. • Music: you can listen to the Salve Regina at the end of Night Prayer, and an in-app purchase will give you the whole of Sung Compline in Latin from the Schola Cantorum of the London Oratory School. • Speech: You can listen to the Angelus spoken in English or Latin. You can optionally subscribe to other spoken content, including the Gospel for each day's Mass in English, Morning Prayer in English, and the three daytime Hours in Latin (the subscription renews itself automatically but you can cancel it at any time). • You can have a second language for the Order of Mass, in parallel with English: Latin, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, German, Polish, Malayalam or Yoruba. • You can choose between turning pages like a book or scrolling like a web page. You can choose fonts and font sizes (including huge ones) and you can turn on a night mode for reading in the dark. • If you are blind, turn on VoiceOver and press the Information button in the toolbar at the top of the screen to get full instructions. • You can see the saint of the day in a widget on your Today screen. • If you have an Apple Watch, you can see the week’s calendar and read the Mass readings. Everything is permanently built in to the Universalis app. You do not need an Internet connection. You can also set up an email service to send you selected pages automatically each day. As always, if you want full instructions, open Universalis and shake your device. Side to side works best. (If you are using VoiceOver to read the screen to you, then instead of shaking, use the Information button at the top of the screen). For full details of the translations used, visit If you want to see more before you decide to buy Universalis, download the free Catholic Calendar application. It gives you a month’s free trial of Universalis content. ------------------------------ If you choose to subscribe to the spoken Gospels at Mass for £1.99 / $1.99 / €2.49 per month or Morning or Daytime Prayer for £2.99 / $2.99 / €3.49 per month (prices in other countries will vary), payment for a month's subscription will be charged to your iTunes account immediately. Subsequent monthly renewals will be charged within 24 hours before expiry of the current period. You can turn auto-renewal off at any time. If you turn auto-renewal off in the middle of a period, you will not get a refund but you will receive the benefit of the entire period and your subscription will then stop. • Excellent

Very useful when out and about, though I always use my actually breviary when at all possible. Excellent having the Latin too.

It would be better if audios were also available for the parts of the Mass: the readings, prayers, prefaces, eucharistic prayers. And also the audios for the vesperas and night prayer like the Divine Office.
  • Indispensable

Super convenient way to follow Mass, daily commentary on relevant saints, full daily Office for those with the time.

Always incredibly useful to have the Mass and Office on my phone! I would appreciate it if the widget could be updated: right now it is simply almost unreadable white text on a white background telling you what feast it is, but it would be useful if it could also have buttons to the sections for Mass Today, About Today, and the appropriate Office for the time of day. Otherwise fantastic!

It is wonderful to have the Mass for the day at your fingertips and to be able to read God's word even if you can't get to Mass. Brilliant!

Universalis just gets better and better. The suite of apps (iPhone, iPad, Mac & windows) more than justify the price, and the apps are continually refined and improved. The ability to create ePub and kindle docs from the desktop version are welcome, as is the very useful option to print out a particular office, or mass propers. The latest update adds sone design polish, with very welcome page turns and an even neater UI. My wish list for the app gets shorter and shorter - but I do wish it were possible to have greater control in selecting and so copying from the app - and now we can tweet from the app it would be useful to be able to tweet selections (quotations) from the Readings. I look forward too to the ability to Slide Over the app on the iPad. The better it gets the more I can imagine doing with this outstanding app!
  • The best complete catholic breviary on iPad

    By charlieedge
I have been using this application for a few years now. In my view it is an excellent full breviary that can be used in UK and a number of European countries. The price is very good. I do not need to travel with one of the three volumes of my printed copy when travelling. It is ideal for use on trains, planes etc as it is the full offline copy. It even includes the missal. Thanks for an excellent product Universalis team.

I have had this app for quite a while now and then all of a sudden it no longer loads anymore. I have deleted and re-installed but still nothing???
  • Useful app

Very useful app, not having to carry books / papers around
  • Just what I was looking for

I was never sure if I was reading from the right week. This app serves all the right readings to you and doesn't need the internet. A really good support for prayer. Page turns and graphics are very windows 3.1 hence only 4 stars.

Apart from the clunky design I do like this app, though it does stick sometimes. No voice over which is good, I can read in peace.

Best thing on my ipad. No more flipping backwards and forwards in a missal. Brilliant
  • Very nice interface

Everything that you need. So glad that you have done this.
  • Wonderful

This brilliant app has led me into the full celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours. I was amazed how easy it is to incorporate into everyday life when it sits in your pocket! Thank you so much for the update with the Latin text of the Office.

This app alone makes my iPad worthwhile - Sunday, weekday missal and the bonus of the Divine office - now I am self sufficient!
  • Brilliant App for a busy person

    By Rev MLC
I was shown this by and RAF Chaplain in November 2012 and at once I was a convert! I have used it on my iPhone and iPad ever since and the price I paid (£9.99) was fantastic, I would willingly have paid the higher price which some of your users seem to have paid. What I find most useful is not having to carry a load of Breviaries etc everywhere I go.

Brilliant ap. My best and most used ap. So easy to find the mass readings of the day, or any other day. Has introduced me to the beautiful Divine Office. In hindsight actually cheap ap at the price! - A small thing that could be improved is the pinch to shrink or enlarge text, which is easy to run accidentally. This loses your place in the readings. Could you help to fix that? - Thanks for your ap. Great job!
