Informant 5 Calendar Reviews

    By PisdStrat
Like many here, I am a very frustrated long term PI user. PI4 worked beautifully and Informant 5 is an ABSOLUTE MESS. I have been patient and submitted a lot of feedback to the support team, but it’s now nearly a year since it was released and it just doesn’t seem to be getting better. So many things just don’t work and I really don’t think that the team are responding to the car-crash feedback and reviews that is here and on other feeds. FWIW, if it worked correctly, I have no problem paying the new annual subscription. I have fully subscribed to the entire system, including PI sync, for years and have always found it much better than syncing with google. I have previously submitted 5* feedback here about PI4, which unfortunately is now giving up the ghost with the lastest iOS updates. I just can not believe they haven’t ensured that data could be transferred over from PI4 without glitches. Duplicates, lost data, lost templates etc etc. Ill-considered functional changes (date picker/ templates changed to ‘triggers’/ increased number of taps required to do nearly anything) have been made and should have been abandoned long ago. I haven’t given up on it yet and wait in hope that PI4 levels of functionality can be restored, but I’m bitterly frustrated by the lack of progress and am now actively looking for alternative apps, whereas previously I would have been evangelising this calendar. Really disappointed...

Native calendar is 100 times better.
  • Way too complicated

    By Mrpdma
Much preferred earlier versions. Some of us just want a simple calendar with better cosmetics than icalendar. Cosmetics poor on this one.
  • Horrid

    By SophieChicken
The original Informant app was far more user friendly. This version looks bad and feels bad.
  • Removed from IPad and IPhone

    By Golly640
Very disappointed that features in Informant 5 have been locked on my phone. Why I have now to pay a monthly subscription after purchasing the original app for an organiser that has not really improved is beyond comprehension. On the iPad previous version will not open it pushes me to their web page to download version 5 and will not return to the app. What would have been really smart is to develop hand writing recognition for iPad as Apple Pencil is the way forward. Will give the new app a week but most likely will remove from my devices.
  • Good but not great

I've been an Informant user for over 10 years but the navigation in Informant 5 is a big step backwards from Informant 4. It now takes more taps to move around the system which I find frustrating. They have attempted to resolve the original issue of needing 2 taps every time you change view by including some shortcuts but the position of the shortcuts changes each time you change view which means you need to focus on where the button is each time before tapping it. A really powerful app with lots of features but at $25 unless the navigation is improved I'm not sure I'll renew when my current subscription expires.
  • The best Personal Organiser there is

    By Davetoria
This is an app I rely on every day and it has been rock solid the whole time. There are too many features to list here but the complete integration of Calendar, tasks, contacts and notes keeps everything organised perfectly. It's the best looking app too. If you're looking to purchase a complete solution, Informant is the answer and I urge you to go ahead. I notice there are a couple of one star reviews here that, on reading, show they were written by people who didn't even bother to find out how to use the app properly! One did have an issue but instead of using the built in support contact system just jumped to writing a bad review here. Not fair and prompted me to add my opinion. I live in the U.K. and am in no way connected with the developer, just a loyal and extremely happy customer.
  • Pocket informant 5

I've been using informant for years and it has managed to keep me on track throughout my professional career. I don't mind paying a fee for a premium product and to be fair the aftersales backup is 2nd to none. This product is moving forward in leaps and bounds and the upgrades being made are sensible and practical. Would love to see this on a windows platform to work with my desktop and laptop although I have it syncing with them but the look and feel of informant not to mention the tools available would be great on the desktop. Keep up the good work and i for one am happy to pay the subscription for the use of this product. Thanks again for the product and thanks again for keeping me on top of things. James
  • Still the best. But can still improve!

    By Skootch
Top app. Use it every day. There have always been bugs (in every version) and most of these still exist (since way back in version 3+) BUT... Informant has never really lost me any important data (apart from a couple of photographs I attached to a Task back in 2015!). Most of the bugs have to do with display / update errors (e.g. On iPhone SE the overlay date selector is almost always off screen!! It seems like the developers are concentrating on larger screen phones, as the SE I really love has more difficulties with display than any other version, it seems!! Having said all this, I trust Informant like no other Productivity App ever created. Four star app, never quite reaches five stars and I feel it never will. Here's hoping the app fixes some of the longest-running errors. I might send another ticket now actually. Recommended.
  • Oh dear!

    By stenataar
Sorry but have to downgrade you a star again. Today I had to restore purchases and all my iOS reminders are failing to pull through to informant. This should be the easy bit. I have a competitor calendar app that I have started to use as a backup as I can no longer rely on informant. I have used PI for as long as I can remember! I was excited by a new version but shocked at the price when it was launched. This is the most expensive app I own - is it worth the cost? I like the lay out of the calendar and the way it integrates my iOS reminders. It also has the ability to sync with a lot of other services, but I don't really need that. It is updated fairly regularly and this has helped iron out some of the bugs present on initial release. Is it worth £23?

Used pi for years. Now the older version does not work because these robbing sods got too greedy!
  • Not the best time...

    By Trevor1944
I'm a long term user of this, undoubtedly the very best calendar /to do app available. I appreciate the developers' commitment to upgrades and improvements and only wish for two things : a desktop version (!) and GETTING RID OF THE NEW TIME PICKER! Sorry to shout, but I'd much prefer the original. I coped grudgingly with the last iteration, but this vertical scrolling version is badly implemented. I'm (very) right-handed and scrolling the time wheels with my thumb obscures the numbers. Of course, switching the live zone to the right of the wheel would create the same problem for those who use their left hand. So the best course would be to revert to an earlier version. Please. Then I'll give it the five stars it really deserves but for now it's just four.
  • Mostly good

    By piano lizzard
Long term user. Mostly good updates keeping up with iOS development. Don't like the time-picker - much too laborious to input simple hour/ half-hour slots.
  • Best Calendar app

    By Donutbelly
I have used this app as my sole calendar app because it is the most comprehensive on the market and easiest to use. I can set up events in different time zones, I can attach photos to events. Tasks are easy to create and use. But what I really like is the developer's commitment to continually upgrade and improve the app, to keep it well ahead of the. competition. Try it and you'll not be wasting your time.
  • Fantastic

I've been using pocket informant since the windows mobile version a decade ago. It just gets better and better. Highly recommended
  • The best by far

    By Happy user (UK)
Informant is the best calendar / to do app ever. I tried and rejected lots before I found Informant. I've been using it for over three years and I'd be totally lost without it. I tell my friends, and I'm telling you, try it. It's well worth the money, and it works brilliantly.
  • Gave up

    By Sooperhoopsa
I downloaded this having used the previous Informant for many years. I have given up as I just don't understand it. 1)Can't see how to get to the settings 2) There are no entries in it whatsoever. As I can't find the settings I can't make sure my calendars are enabled. What a piece of trash

After trying more calendar apps than I have had hot dinners, I keep on going back to Informant. The ease of use, the layout and the features just don't compare with other apps. Not only this but the users are actually listened to and regular updates are released - more than any other calendar app. Ok it may not be the cheapest on the market, but you definitely get what you pay for.
